Tucked away in the long barn at Thornham Walks, the studio and gallery is a space for inspiration, enjoyment, creativity and learning. Apart from creating art, there is laughter, music and an atmosphere of comfort and quiet pleasure.
“During my early years as a painter” says John, “I attended many art classes where groups of adult painters congregated in a sterile room or a cold village hall. Usually instructed to all paint the same subject, or ‘follow me’ classes led by someone thinking that everyone there will be able to keep up with them and produce satisfactory paintings in two or three hours. I wanted to do something different to that, to teach artists to paint in their own style and technique.
At my studio, we have a relaxed and informal method of teaching art, there are no barriers to learning art, whatever your abilities, whether you are a total beginner or a more experienced painter, you will find a supportive and inspirational network of fellow students.“
Our art classes encourage students to paint whatever they want to paint. Any subject, any medium, any style.
“I make sure that the studio is light and warm, with every student having plenty of room” John explains.
Classes run on a Tuesday and Thursday from 10am to 4pm with refreshments on tap – just bring your own lunch.
For those undertaking the Fine Art Course, supporting tuition takes place on a Monday from 10am to 4pm.
On the first Friday of every month between 7-9pm, student’s work is exhibited.
This social Fine Art Friday event is opportunity to meet artists from both the course and the classes. Drinks and nibbles are served, and friends, family and members of the public are all made welcome.
