About John Parker

Who is this man? And how does he inspire so many artists?

Artist John Parker

Born in London and moving to Essex as a young boy, John started work in a variety of jobs, “That was tough” he says, “but I learnt a lot about people!” Later his love for creating art became overwhelming and by 1990 he was a professional self-taught artist selling his work on a regular basis.

Wanting more, he eventually took the plunge and studied at the Norwich University of Art gaining a BA (Hons) Degree with Commendation in 2006.

It was during this time that he discovered that he was dyslexic. But despite that challenge, he went on to undertake a Diploma in Teaching in the Lifetime Learning Sector (DTLLS) completing it in 2009 and began lecturing in Art History and Appreciation.

“Understanding my neurodivergence” (he was later identified with ASD, the autism spectrum disorder, as well as dyslexia) “I recognized the benefit of having a different type of learning experience which enables people to be inspired to work at their own pace, in their own way and enjoy the process of learning and creating.”

Over the intervening years he worked as an artist and ran Art Classes growing from small studio in his own back garden to opening a gallery and studio at Red House Yard, Thornham in 2019.

Then along came COVID. Unable to welcome students and customers to the gallery and studio, John set about developing an Online Fine Art Course and on reopening the studios, launched the Suffolk School of Art which includes supported tuition.
