Colin Ayers is an established artist and a professional associate of the SAA (Supporting All Artists); he exhibits in various galleries around East Anglia and runs classes and workshops; Colin also demonstrates for art groups.
He received a Christmas Gift of three Art Classes with John Parker to move his work from a fairly standard size canvas to bigger ones; this led to starting the first module of the Fine Art Course.
Colin believes that every artist is on a journey of constant learning; he expressed his pleasant surprise about how his horizons have expanded, in a way he did not expect.
Previously working with water colour, pastels, acrylics and oils. Colin has focussed more on larger paintings using Acrylics and oils.
The course made him think about art differently. The talks at the start of each day introduced him to classic artists of the past and the 21st Century artists who have followed them.
‘John challenged me’ he says ‘He made me step outside my comfort zone and take risks. My technique has developed as a result, and I even use large brushes!’ he laughs.
In the past Colin avoided abstract art, he didn’t have time or appreciation for it; however, now, he has stepped out and created abstract work of his own in the style of Mark Rothko, which was for his daughter in law.
Currently Colin is working on a piece for the Climate Change Exhibition ‘Close to the Edge’ at the Minories Gallery in September; he is really enjoying being part of the Suffolk School of Art Community.
